Customer care, Dubai style

Ah that's better, we're back to normal.

The good service I posted about a couple of days ago was just a blip in the normal standard of customer care and service.

Today Gulf News brings us the story of bugs in beans.

A tourist was disgusted to find live bugs crawling in a sealed packet of beans...he returned the packet, which was crawling with around 100 live bugs.

That's when he found out about true Dubai-style customer care.

After reporting the infestation to the manufacturer's customer helpline, he was outraged when told that it was a good thing.

"I rang the number to complain and they told me it was a good thing that bugs were eating the beans, because it meant the food was tasty."

Yep, that's the normal arrangement. We pay the money, the company decides whether to give us anything in return, what it is, when they'll give it to us and what condition it's in. Resistance is futile.

Welcome to Dubai.

I thought, the 100 bugs are too many tobe ignored. Why the man didn't see them when he bought the beans?

Evi, maybe they were just little eggs when he bought the beans and they hatched into bugs later.

WTH...I've experienced similar whacky customer service, though I must admit that I noticed it more w/ the increase of Emiratisation.

I love it! You know the saying T.I.A. (This is Africa) in the movie Blood Diamond?

Maybe we should also start saying T.I.D. for This is Dubai!

*seabee, hi again! I wasn't cruising in the Bahamas, more like stuck on SZR with no access to f*ing blogger! That's customer service for you.

I also read these articles on GN (funnily enough, all in the space of one week) about 3 different cases of hygiene issues accross Dubai, e.g. India Palace @ Ibn Battuta and cockroach under pizza take-away and mould on hamburger found by mother!

Now.......................... funny, innit, how GN suddenly creates an "issue" out of something that is not NEWS!!!

Just like the abysmal state of customer service in the UAE, which, *of course*, does NOT make the news!

How about this for news: blogger.com amongst top 20 sites visited in the UAE, and gets blocked for about 10 days. Only UAE Comm Blog reports on it. Lol !!

Welcome back i* - so that's where you were, the SZR parking lot.

I didn't have blogger access problems while I know others did - maybe it was just some areas that couldn't get on...
