Looking good...

One of the things that in my opinion is done well in Dubai is the roadside landscaping.

I took these photographs over the last three or four weeks and some of the gold and red flowers are now being replaced, which they usually do with red, white and blue petunias.

The colourful landscaping even helps to soften the look of construction areas...

nice, BUT - apart from date palms and few other species these plants are alient to this climate. the amount of water wasted on irrigating these public plants is mindboggling and contributes ot shortages elsewhere. It's not wrong to beautify one's city. It's just the wrong plants.

Ooooh - I love the flowers that decorate Dubai, as has been a cultural tradition over the last 20 or so!

2nd photo of yours - visually directly under the palm trees: what are they called? May be lavender, but relying on your expertise.

Good point, the real nick, but if you saw what London's streets are decorated with (broken bottles, chicken bones, dog excrement, blood, used condoms, used nappies etc.) you'd happily take what you've got.

Lbug,
your reading comprehension is a bit shakey. Read again waht I said. I am not against soft landscaping per se. I advocate the use of indigenous plants.

i* no that's not Lavender, although it does look similar in the photo. It's just green shrubs of some sort.

I planted a big Lavender bed in our garden in Oz - if I can find a pic I'll post it for you :-)
