Another Marina morning

I'm at a loss to understand why what seems to me to be a perfectly normal road junction has more crashes than any other in Dubai Marina.

This morning the taxi with a smashed front was sitting in the garden while a delivery van missing lots of bits was up on the footpath on the opposite side of the road.

It's a simple light controlled junction, not the most dangerous by a long way, yet there are regular crashes here.

It doesn't surprise me at all. I have never been to India or Pakistan but I can't believe the driving schools are any good. Or do they learn their "skills" in Dubai?

The manoeuvre that gets me is the guy in the right hand lane of a three lane roundabout with the intention of taking the third exit (i.e. turn left) and thus needing to drive across the second exit (straight on) causing the car in the middle lane to swerve as he looks to exit. Or he just piles him - which seems to be a viable option for these guys.

Probably got something to do with the exit coming out of the Westin - everyone seems to have the most tremendous difficult looking left to check if their lane is clear. And because no-one ever lets anyone through, most drivers simply pull out without bothering to check.

Doug no it's not that one - although that's probably the worst junction in the Marina area.

This is outside the Radisson Blu hotel the other side of the Marina. I posted a previous crash there on May 19...

Ah that'll be the mental Media City roundabout and the confusing signs then - isn't there that odd roundabout that's more, well, square than round, and then the odd turns to peel off to Knowledge Village?

A good quarter of the road problems in Dubai would be fixed if they were planned by people who actually drive cars in rush hour and need to follow signs. It's just as baffling coming over the interchange that links the Marina with the Springs.

Doug I agree with you, I've posted a few times about the road design and particularly the signage contibuting to many crashes. Confused drivers having to make last second changes of lane for example.
