Needless waste of a young life

Yet another one. A little child gone before he could experience life, fulfil who-knows-what potential.

Killed by his cretin of a father.

Piece the various newspaper reports together and the story is that the criminally stupid father was driving at 100kph in a 60kph zone. He hit the back of a pick-up truck, the child in the back seat smashed his head on the front seat, which would also suggest he wasn’t restrained safely.

An innocent child, totally reliant on the adults around him, trusting them to care for him. The father, who one report said is a teacher, God help us, should be charged with murder.

I'm with Moryarti...

I'm not the best driver in this country... But I'd NEVER drive without my child buckled in, and I NEVER speed with him in the car...

I don't understand why people here don't see the value of the children they put in this type of danger every day...

I just found your blog and wanted to say it's been an interesting read. I've just left Kuwait after 5 years there and lived in Dubai from '95 - '98. Kuwait has the same red tape, the same horrific death toll on the roads (and perhaps worse maid suicide rates)and the same standards of journalism! I have a few photos from my time in Q8 on my blog (sorry for blatent self-promotion!) and wanted to ask - will you be taking photos? It would be fascinating to see how much Dubai has changed and how this 'paradise' is in fact a concrete jungle.

Very sad indeed. I heard there was a similar story the week before where the guy was found searching around his smashed up vehicle looking for his son (8 yrs again) who had been thrown out of the vehicle during the accident....well...hello...what do you expect if they are in the front seat without a belt on....he died too.

I say we should do a march (Sharla style) holding up our boards...shouting...JAIL THE CHILD MURDERERS

Felicity, I have thousands of photos - it's a compulsion with me :-) from back in the 70s/80s and just about every day now.
You've prompted me to maybe do some 'then & now' pieces...watch this space.

bloglingo, I knew someone would say 'he's been punished enough already'. That cliche comes up every time someone is guilty of a criminally stupid act that injures or kills a member of his family.

What about the child whose life he took? What about the daughter he injured, whose brother he took from her?

I don't buy "let him go he's suffered enough". He quite deliberatley, without any thoughts for the children he was responsible for, who were totally dependent on him, drove in a reckless manner that killed one and injured the other.

If he had any consideration for their safety he would not have driven in a way that endangered them. Whether they were his children or complete strangers, he caused death and injury by reckless driving and the full weight of the law should be applied.

Thanks Seabee! Look forward to seeing the old ones! (Mind you the way Dubai changes, even mine probably look ancient!)
