Warning: This post contains pork

Dinner yesterday was the Westin Mina Seyahi buffet, which had something that we've never seen on a Dubai buffet before...

Mr seabee, how much was the buffet? I will invite all of my family to go there as it is considered a feast in our country to have that on our table. Hope that wasn't one-off.

Hmmmm. And I thought I'd seen it all in Dubai. But personally, I'd rather you keep this under wraps, to avoid any sort of repurcussions/ backlashes to all concerned. Esp. with the current Dubai mentality. Or at least keep the venue under wraps.

Alvurnheeyha I think they usually have Peking Duck but this time they had the suckling pig instead. If you want to go especially for that you should check with the restaurant to make sure they have it. Cost of the buffet is Dh200 per person.

Shankie: "I'd rather you keep this under wraps, to avoid any sort of repurcussions/ backlashes". Repercussions for selling pork? It's openly available all over the city, in supermarkets and restaurants.

Seabee,

I presume you'll had to pay extra for spirits?

Pork might be freely available in the supermarkets and restaurants but you might be the one who gets penalised for eating it rather than your neighbour even though you both had a dabble.

We know that it's one rule for one and one rule for another at the moment in Dubai, and with the Imaam of the Grand Mosque of KSA visiting Sheikh Mo yesterday, things are only gonna get tighter and back the way they were. Conservatively Islamic!

That would truly be a shame if Dubai takes the conservative route for the sake of a bailout for that would surely mean in simpler terms; a final nail on its dilapidated coffin.

Here's hoping its neither.

Bring on that great pork crackling...

Sorry, I overstated the price of the buffet by five dirhams. I checked the bill and it's actually Dh195.

DougF, yes, that's the price for the food. Drinks, inc water, are extra.

In that case will it be the restaurant who will be penalised afaik?

And it's not really so much about us eating pork in the restaurant but them displaying it on the buffet table.

Exactly my point. Even though the restaurant is displaying the pork, it is a high probability that the consumer will be penalised judging by how things have been actioned in Dubai in current months.
