Wot, no proof reader?

Full page in Emirates Today advertising several job vacancies. In the call to action it states:

"The candidate should have a good command of Spoken and Written English."

Hmmmm....

The headline is:

"One of the largest and fastest growing media groups within the UAE is offering to fill the following positions."

Hmmmm....

I've made the point so often in the past. Why don't our media groups employ proof readers?

I fear a lot of people will say "So what's wrong with that?"

I really enjoyed this piece in The Telegraph by Lynne Truss, the author of "Eats, Shoots & Leaves". In particular I liked this point . . .

Literacy is historically the engine of social mobility: to downgrade literacy is actively to deprive many people of a chance in life. Decades of well-intentioned relativism have done nothing to bring about a more equal society. In fact, the result is that, more than ever before, it's only children from the most privileged homes – who go to the most expensive schools – who are equipped, by their language skills, to get all the best jobs and run the country.

Now aren't you glad you taught me how to do HTML tags! :)

Thanks for the link - I do read the Telegraph but I missed that.

I have the strongest feeling that for Seebee to to buy and read the Telegraph [perhaps he reads a free copy in a cafe!] would be akin to taking nasty medicine everyday.
Unpleasant but necessary.

Caz.
