People are paying a lot of money to eat dinner while dangling from a crane fifty metres in the air.
If anyone who's done it reads this...why?
Moving back to Dubai after 22 years has been an experience! Back then we didn't have the internet or blogs. Now we do I can jot down my thoughts on daily life, things we come up against, things we enjoy, the multi-national society, the laws, the weather...plus other things in general which catch my attention.

Explain why people shouldn't do it. Not that I have done it but if people can afford it – let them. There are people working in that business and if they make their living from it, then let them.
Its a fine line between adventure and dining. I didn't see anything wrong in it. Its not like bank calls that annoy anyone.
Your post yesterday got innumerable remarks when posted on twitter, truly time you went there!
As for this, my first concern was of a lavatorial nature! :-(
Was this not originally down at Emirates Towers as a charity initiative, or something along those lines?
MM I didn't suggest that people should't do it, I simply said I don't understand why they would want to.
Rupert, yes I know, I followed a link back to Mich's twittering about it. But I still can't get the hang of Twitter.
I'm with you on this? Why???!!!
Is anyone *actually* doing this? Can't imagine that it would be a big draw.
Perhaps there is one attractive facet though: suspended 50 meters in the air like that, it would be impossible for the waitstaff to ignore you. Might be worth the price right there. ;-)
As George Mallory said, - "Because its there!"
For the privilege of doing it. I guess its the same reason that someone would pay AED 350+ for a cup of coffee in Atmosphere at the Burj Khalifa...
Seebee,
My name's Mark McConnell been reading your blog and given me much food for thought. I live out here and I'm putting together a documentary on the growth of Dubai for the Media department at my Uni in Scotland. Trying to avoid the well worn shock horror expose route but get more of a multi narrative thing going on. I'm trying to cover as many angles as I can and would love to speak to you as an expat, especially since you have a better sense of perspective than most. Got Nasif Kayed, Jim Krane and others on board and would be great to hear from you if you could spare half an hour of your time some evening.
Thanks,
Mark
Mark, send me an e-mail (address on my Profile). I'm heading off to the UK for three weeks early Sunday morning but I'll check the e-mails every so often while I'm away.
I think living in Dubai forces some people to try everything new and crazy even if it was not fun just to brag about it :) Or, if not to brag then to give oneself the feeling that they belong to this city in which everything is new and crazy and outstanding and out of the norm! It is just another story that you go to work tomorrow and tell your colleagues while hearing the familiar "oh" and "wow" sounds!
