Forward to the past

Here we go again...biggest, largest, tallest for Dubai.

Didn't take long did it.

This time it's the replacement Hard Rock Cafe, to be opened at Festival City.

The original Dubai Hard Rock Cafe in Media City closed about eighteen months ago. The new one we're told will have the largest Hard Rock Shop in the world in the largest Hard Rock Cafe outside North America and outside it will have the tallest ornamental guitar in the world at a height of 118 feet.

Just what we need.

Gulf News has the report here.

So, is it suppose to be a bad, negative news? I don't see what's wrong in it if that's what hard rock wants, so let it be.

If I say something positive I get complaints. If I say something negative I get complaints. If I say something neutral I get complaints.

And people complain that I complain too much.

Ummm...

But which it actually happen?

I, for one, am ecstatic about this news.

For many years, the lack of a large ornamental guitar has held Dubai back from achieving its full potential.

Now, finally, this sad state of affairs will be rectified.

I sometimes wonder why people who criticize are always 'anonymous'? Be that as it may, I was amused to hear the news on the radio this afternoon as well. I was beginning to miss all those highest, tallest, widest, longest etc. claims. This new claim probably came after the longest time lapse this time.

Will this huge guitar actually be usable? Will it play something at mid-day?

If not, then it's not hat special or even news worth.

This is great news, I can't wait to munch on their fish & chips (hammour) and a pint

Yes, nothing says "This is a sane and sensible place in which to invest and do business" quite like building a massive guitar in front of a chain restaurant.

Seabee, just typed out a whole essay, Internet stopped working, so do you have a complaints section, please...?(!?! ;-) )

Hard Rock rocks (always order their burgers - perfect the world-around - and great for celebrity-spotting, family ambience and service, only in my experience)

Seabee, your post title hit a note with me (or strung a chord?)...I thought it was a post about new announcement for train to Abu Dhabi or something ;-)

i*, I know the sinking feeling losing hours of work brings, it's happened to me all too often :-(

This is typical Dubai - knock something down that was fine as it was, then re-build it - okay, it will be bigger and of course more expensive. But will it go ahead?!

Seabee, I was trying to say I liked your post ;-)

Have you seen those 'Baby on Board' signs recently?

They always seem to zap past me, and I can't see a baby on board.

Seabee said...

i*, I've been meaning to do a post on the Baby on Board signs for a long time, just haven't got around to it.

I want to know why people have them. Really. Is it because they're bragging about having a baby, is it to excuse their bad driving, is it in the vain hope that other drivers will be more careful around them?

Readers who display them in your vehicles...why?

Rolling on the floor laughing at Christopher Saul's comment - absolute class!!

We'd bought and displayed one such sign when our son was young. It was in vain hope that other drivers would perhaps exercise some caution around my car, particularly the ones tailgating me. now my son is two and half years old and the moment he could, he pulled the sign away from the rear. It now rests somewhere under the seats.
btw, we've always used an age appropriate car seat when driving with him around.
Not sure about how effective the sign was, the seat has saved him from harm, that we experienced when we got in an accident.
