Moron report

Dubai's Traffic department has issued a list of the top ten worst traffic rule violators in 2009.

The number of offences they must have commited are astonishing.

Even the tenth on the list racked up fines averaging over Dh111 every day of the year. A total of Dh40,750.

The worst offender had fines totalling Dh84,510.

There's no information about whether they've been banned and had their vehicles confiscated. I do hope they're not still on the road, still endangering the rest of us.

By the way, for once the official report is the same as anecdotal reports - males and Emiratis dominate.

Nine are men and nine are Emirati. The lone expat is a male Brit, who's number two on the list. The woman is at number four.

The story is here.

I am glad they published this report. It made me feel good. I thought I was the ultimate traffic violator; paying around DHS14000 in fines...annually.

My new year resulution is to keep fines less than 10000 this year.

Damn you radars!

The offender's cars should not only be confiscated, they should be crushed...

What were they thinking???

@El Shahlab.
I am so relieved that you have resolved to kepp your fine down to 70% of the last year. There is now a 30% decrease in the possibility that a stupid moron who doesn't give a damn about his own life and property - let alone someone else's - will get me killed on Dubai's roads...

I am really greatful...

I still don't understand how people can need to go that fast, and not be able to notice/understand radars that much.

Paragraph 4 of this cross-posted blog entry reports a mere Dh18k. It's since gone up.

As the driver was wearing the uniform of a senior police officer when I saw hime breaking the law, presumably he'll make the fines disappear with a wave of the wasta wand.

Eventually, Sir Isaac will catch up with him, and Newton's laws are inviolate.

Emjay, watch your mouth.

@Emjay - spot on.

News flash El Shahlab - if you were actually a good driver, you wouldn't have any fines. It's really not that hard to avoid them by FOLLOWING THE RULES OF THE ROAD...

I think your new years' resolution should be to learn how to drive - and I seriously hope your downright antisocial attitude doesn't result in the death of an innocent person.

Allah's busy, so it's not Inshallah, this one's on you.

El shahlab reminds me of a teen driver i saw, bang his car deliberately into another. Why?
Th teen was coming the wrong way, and the other car didnt reverse to let the teen pass. So the teen hit him, and then claimed the other driver "didnt respect him".
In most countries, such an obnoxious punk would be beaten to a pulp, but thank God we have rule of law here, albeit only for some.

Sadly El Shahlab is symptomatic of the problems Dubai faces on the roads. How on earth can you rack up Dh 14,000 in fines and still retain a license ?

I'm completely at one with Emjay and Doug on this.
