Why do they do it?

Not unique to Dubai by any means and I've often wondered over the years (fumed, actually) why the lazy bastards do it.

This happened to be in Ibn Battuta Mall car park. The trolley park is just the other side of the silver car but the shopper couldn't be bothered to take it the few steps. Instead it's left between two cars. Where it can cause damage and has to be moved by someone else.

It really is only a few steps, a few seconds. So why do they do it? Laziness, stupidity, inconsideration, can't be bothered, don't understand? Arrogance - I'm too important to take my trolley to the right place? All of the above?

It's all of the above and more my dear Sea Bee and you are not the only frustrated person to be honest, I share the same feeling too.

I don't deny the fact that I do leave the shopping trolly in the parking area sometimes due to high pavement level or far distance of the assembly point/bay, it's not appropriate I admit but I can't help it when evreybody is not bothered about getting it done righnt from the first place and here I mean the trolly owners.

Things are a tad different now in Sharjah thanks to the work on Al Wahda St, but not very long ago, Al Falah Plaze (now Lulu Hypermarket) used to allow the facility for shoppers who lived on the other side of the road to take their trolleys up the foot overbridge (now dismantled) opposite Honda showroom. There was a notice on the other side announcing that trolleys are not allowed beyond that point. Scores of trolleys used to be dotted all over the Abu Shagara area, between buildings, between the used cars, near the trash bins, everywhere. I used to live in an apartment with constructions on three sides. Yes, trolleys used to be dotted along the plywood barricades behind and beside our apartment block. There was a Mitsubishi pickup doing its rounds every morning with a gang of Nepali chaps whose job it was to look behind, beside and around buildings, retrieve the trolleys and load them onto the truck, Once I actually saw a chap empty his trolley, and push it roughly towards the nearby trash can. So many trolleys used to be 4-wheels up near rubbish bins. Trolley courtesy is probably unheard of here.

At least the staff collecting these trolleys get a bit of a bonus, albeit a very small sum, collecting the AED1 coin. Tiny molehills.......

All of the above. Besides lack of simple basic decency it also speaks volume about the scant respect we have for other people's property.

All of the above Seabee. Education and awareness can bring about some change, but it is the 'culture' of one's thinking that can truly make a difference. I guess a a monetary fine will also bring some folks, realization.
